1PM: GOOD COPY BAD COPY
2PM: STEAL THIS FILM II
3PM: RIP: A REMIX MANIFESTO
A series of documentaries about the current state of copyright and culture. Creativity depends upon an ongoing, free and open conversation between ideas from the past and the present. A process that is increasingly threatened as creative works are divided up and exploited by private interests and mutations of copyright law are established to lock down their use. Inspired by the writings of Lawrence Lessig, founder of the Free Culture Movement and Creative Commons, a number of thinkers, designers, musicians, artists and activists have begun to question this abuse of the original tenets of copyright law.
This has led to a range of alternative methods, or copyleft, for a creator to license use and re-use of work, providing opportunities for collaboration and contribution to a pool of creativity that has been difficult since the birth of copyright.
